OPEN WATER SWIMMING

The Kouga Swim Club trains in the pristine canals of Marina Martinique during the summer months.  The Club has a strong open water swimming ethos and has been connected to the Marina Martinique since the early 1990′s.

Brenton, the coach of the club, began swimming in the canals in 1993, shortly after the Marina was built.  Louis Stephenson, the then General Manager of the Marina was an avid triathlete and he started the regular training sessions in the canals with John Hastings.  Geoff Grylls the legendary Springbok swimmer was another of the swimming pioneers of Marina Martinique.

Today the Kouga Swim Club hosts the EP Open Water Swim Series, in addition to the Marina Martinique Mile.  The vision is to grow the fledgling sport of open water swimming and there are regular 1 K, 3 K, 5 K and 10 K events in Jeffreys Bay.

The Kouga Swim Club long term goal is to position Jeffreys Bay as the open water swim capital in Africa.  The sport is family based with parents supporting their swimmers and the Kouga Swim Club aims to promote this aspect with regular events at Marina Martinique
